Will you be putting Damsels in your tank?

I know, damsel is best fish, guard your coral like none other. Protect from inferior species. Fight crab. Fight snail. Fight urchin. Friend with anemone. Eat worm. Eat algae.

So I give only one question:

If you can't tell, I totally understand the frustration of trying to remove a damsel from the tank.

Absolutely not, never again lol, 5 tanks and 4 damsels later, every single one beat the hell out of my other fish. They were supposedly the "good" species, too.

I have 2 clown fish which are related... but common damsels are pure evil, so I'm done with them.

I have two peaceful Chromis damsels, one blue-green chromis (Chromis viridis) and one blue reef chromis (Chromis cyanea) that haven't cause any issues and get along with one another. They mostly just hang around in the water column, and approach me at feeding time . Definitely my favorite fish I've kept... though the only marine fish I've tried are Chromis, blennies, gobies, and livebearers. I tried to avoid a single-species school since I've heard they will pick on each other until there is only one left.

I have a tank with several eels, a couple of triggers, a maroon clown, Coris wrasse, and a very murderous hawkfish. Still too scared to try a damsel.

Already do. Although not in all tanks. I have one together with a clown and yellow nose goby. A Talbot and I must say its a really pretty damsel. I really like the way they interact especially with corals. They have this guarding behaviour and will maneuver real easily around corals. I have one three striped in my Euphyllia tank and I must say those corals are IT’S babies.

i have a 3 stripe damsel living alone in my nano softie tank. i got him in the first week of having the tank set up because i had a bad flatworm invasion and he ate them all within a few days. my tank is 3 1/2 maybe 4 months old now and i still have him. i like watching him swim through the rockwork and he sometimes sits in my palys and i'll only see his little face peeking out. not sure if its hosting behaviour or what but he doesn't do that too frequently. on the contrary, i had a good population of amphipods that i introduced into my tank last week but hes already eaten most of them haha.

My Azure Damsel has been an excellent addition to my 12g and peacefully shares the space with an Eyebrow Barnacle Blenny (helps that the two fish have completely different shapes and behavior).

Surprisingly, it has only grown about 1/4" in a year (1-1/4" head to tail), unlike a previous Ocellaris Clownfish pair which grew much faster in this small nano.

Yup most people already have damsels and don't even realize it.

I would argue though that when we talk about "damsels" clownfish are out of the picture. Damsels are some of my least favorite fish but clownfish some of my all-time favs. Behavior is night and day.

I swore off damsels about 20 years ago after I had a orange tailed damsel, satan’s spawn, second worst after satan himself a maroon clown. After setting up my tank a out a year ago I wanted a splash of blue so I pulled the trigger and got a yellow tailed damsel. Model citizen and low on the pecking order.

I have a yellowtail that my wife bought for me about 12 years ago. Beautiful fish. My daughters favorite so I am kinda stuck with him. Knocks over frags and small rocks, buries frags on the sand bed, terrorizes most newcomers. That behavior usually subsides after a day or 2. He is still tiny, smallest fella in the tank, maybe an inch and a half but all attitude. When is he not having a tantrum over a change to "his" tank hes pretty cool. If I had to do it over again? NO WAY.

My clown fish is a terror! She's been put in time out more than once, thankfully I have a large refugium. My two azure damsels are pretty chill, my 15+ year old blue green chromis will kill any other chromis I try to introduce.
