Will zoas grow on a monti cap?

If I place a small rock on a big monti cap, will the zoas on the rock spread onto the cap? Anyone have experience with this?

I would think if they do they would kill off the monti.

Depends on the size of the monti. I do have a tiny piece of one left over from removal and the zoa's go around it but what may happen is the zoa skirts will shadow the monti from light and cause stress and maybe death if it's small enough.

I’m kind of hoping the zoas will slowly shadow and kill off the monti. Hopefully someone will chime in that has seen it happen.
