July 2016

After taking roughly a year off and moving from Houston to NYC, I have decided to get back into the hobby. My plan is to slowly piece everything together in order to get the tank wet by early/mid July.

Tank: Red Sea Reefer Nano White
Return: Waveline DC2500
Skimmer: Icecap K2-50
Waterflow: MP10w ES, may add a second one (QD) when needs arises.
Controller: Apex
Light: Radion gen 2 (have on hand) it it's too much or has too much light spillage, I may try a Kessil 160 or a Nanobox Dou
Nitrate/phosphate removal: NOPOX, Marinepure block
Doser: Jaebo DP-4 for 2 part
Auto-top off: will start with stock, may upgrade to Tunze or Smart ATO
Sand: special grade
Rock: 15 LB KP aquatics uncured (need to order)

Scape: wanting to do something similar to a reefs edge, rock taking up 1/3 tank max, I will use fresh uncured carrabbian rock.

Livestock-

Fish:
A) pike blenny, yellow head jawfish, small scorpion or leaf fish
B) yellow or red fuzzy dwarf lionfish
C) Fu Manchu lion fish
D) trio of ORA assessors
E) 3-5 cardinals (not sure on the species yet)

Inverts: some rock nems and many a few Maxi's plus cleanup crew
Coral: heavy emphasis on gorgonia, Zoa, with some Lps and maybe a scattered SPS..... Going to try to stay away from the skittles look (lots of different frags everywhere)

abinet wired and apex, vortech controller, and other electronics mounted. The Light was mounted, (this Radion is way too big, will need to get something more appropriate in the near futur), and the tank will be leak tested tomorrow.

I actually light the way everything looks, but the "light spill" from the Radion is extreme (which is why I have it in an anterior posterior orientation).

Tank is now cycling with Dr. Tim's and ammonium chloride

I plan to do a complete cycle of the tank with sand and marinepure blocks before I order my uncured Liverock from KP Aquatics

With the tank sill cycling I decided I would go ahead and set up my dosing pump. I plan to start the pump (4 channels) with NoPOX, Calcium, and Alk. I will leave the last channel open for the future. Surprisingly only one pump was off when I calibrated it. I plan to mount the dosing pump above the top off resavoir And hang the bags below it.

System looks really sharp.

Cool! Let's see some photos of your view too! :)

Some updates: tank has cycled nicely and my love rock will be here Tuesday. I also went ahead and ordered a NanoBox Duo to replace the radion, as the overall aesthetics were not to my liking (light spill) .

The 15lbs of KP Aquatics Live rock is in! I found a few dead pistol shrimp and what looked like a Euclid worm at the bottom of the bag, but the rock looks great! I still need to get my scape figured out and possibly break a few rocks in half.

I plan to ship out my radion today, so hopefully I will get my new light in soon

Sadly I'm going through a cycle.... :-(

NH4: 0.3
NH2: 1
NH3: 50+
PH: 7.8
ALK: 9.5
SG: 1.026
Temp: 78

My skimmer is pulling a crazy amount of dark gunk though.

Will prob start doing 5gal water changes every 3-4 days. I have also increased my NoPOX dosing
To 3ml/day

Lastly I got my DIY CO2 scrubber up and running.

I rearranged the rocks for better coral placement and cemented them together with NYOS cement (it has a very steep learning curve). I am fairly happy with the scape now.

Lastly I went ahead and placed my first divers den order!!

Excuse the crappy PC room light, my Nanobox DUO is taking longer to get here then expected [emoji53]

And I already sold my radion

Really liking the light, the colors are great. I noticed I have some type of hitchhiker anemone (looks like a corkscrew), as well as some sort of sps.

Excuse the glare

Why did you decide to go with the Nano box vs Radion XR15 Pro?(or keeping the 30)
