Give it a try, it may not light the whole tank for sps, but the center should be bright. <$100!
Standard "Chinese black box".
There are dozens of threads/ posts on like kind.

Viparspectra is one kind. Different brand may or may not cary but generally not much but???

Keep in mind the fake wattage. About 110 watts on full really.

Looks like a Chinese black box. Will it work? I’m fairly certain it will. However, there’s an extreme lack of control it seems with this one. Looks like only 10% increases in intensity (which can probably be significant for acclimation purposes) and no timer (unless I missed it).

Never used the light but I would think for sure it will for sure be plenty of par though you may have to raise it higher than you want to not have darker areas on the sides(and then you end up with lots of light spill in front).

Without a doubt it can work to grow coral. The biggest concern i would have using a single one on your tank is getting it bright enough at the edges of your tank may require turning it up so much it fries the stuff in middle.

The viper has more spectrums or colors if you will . But you will need 2 of them either way you go . Mount them 16 to 18 inches above your tank.

One viper will light a 40B no issue, hang at 20-22” and you will be golden and get good color blending

This lights are powerfull enough to grow anything..... This type of light i mean.....

More, for 95% of aplications they put too much of light, specialy white channel. Best thing will be to replace half white channel for more blue and uv leds, otherwise white channel must be set very low....

Hi,
I’m considering upgrading from my Fluval 13.5 to a 40 breeder, and came across this light:
Is one of these adequate for a coral reef tank with dimensions of 36 x 18 x 16 inches? Does anyone have experience with this light?
If you're interested, I have 2 that I no longer use I have been meaning to list for sale.
Send me a message if you're interested. I can take some photos and work something out!

Cool! What kinds of corals do you grow with this setup? Any tips for settings?

On one of my tanks i use a viparspectra. It is a 12" deep frag tank and this lights up a 4'x2' section sitting about 18" above the water. It can easily grow anything i use it for LPS in that tank and do 60% on blue channel all day and 2 hours of white at 20%. It is very easy to fry corals if you bump up that white too much(depending on depth and corals of course)

Neat. It's nice to know that there are more reasonable options. I'm sure that the Neptune Sky is more fancy, but it's hard to justify 10x the cost when lights like this grow coral.

Do you find that corals don't color up as well as under the expensive lights?

Ya i find they grow and color up just fine. I actually have 4 xr30w that i got used for a giveaway price. I use 2 of them on one of my tanks but almost everything else are knockoff stuff(orphek led bar knockoffs, noopsyches, kessil a360 knockoffs, some 50w "spotlight" lights i am trying). Also have one legit kessil a360 i won at a raffle. I find they all grow coral and can color up coral with no issue whatsoever. My xr30 are probably least favorite of the bunch and have ordered a couple promising looking lights from china i may be replacing them with.

The biggest issue in any of the knockoffs or discount brands for me is usually controllability. Usually the apps are less user friendly. In something like the vipar there is no ability to ramp up/ramp down/etc which is the reason i wont buy more of them. Other knockoffs do have this ability though. Below is some of my coral under my vipar as example.
