I have a wilsoni in my 40 breeder mixed reef that’s I’ve had for about 18 months now. It was doing amazingly well (seen in the first pic) but after doing a treatment of vibrant it went downhill (seen in the second picture).

I stopped dosing vibrant because I didn’t want to lose this guy (photo taken on November 3rd). As you can see it’s not inflated anymore and it’s skeleton is sticking out through its skin. It still takes in food (pellets and reef roids) but I can’t get it back to the way it used to look. I’ve tried moving it into a lower flow and lower lighting area but hasn’t seem to make a difference. Some advice would be greatly appreciated as this is a stunning piece.

Current parameters as of December 13:
Salinity: 35ppt
Calcium: 400ppm
Alkalinity: 8.7dkh
Magnesium: 1380ppm
Nitrate: 8ppm
Phosphate: 0.38ppm

Thanks in advanced!

Why did you dose vibrant in the first place?
What was wrong that made you put that stuff in your system?
Not to sound harsh, just want to cut to the chase...
Did you change anything in the past 18 months?

I stopped dosing vibrant in the beginning of November once my wilsoni started showing negative effects. I was dosing vibrant because I was having an outbreak of bryopsis and bubble algae. I would rather have my wilsoni love than take care of the algae problem.

My tank is currently 24 months old. I have a mixed reef, both my sps and lps are doing great but only my wilsoni isn’t. Please let me know if you’d like any other info or pictures to help out. Thanks!

At this point I'd stop the vibrant and keep things stable. If it has a feeding response try feeding small particle foods like reef nutrition oyster feast and roe. Stability will be the best at this point IMO

Yep I probably wont ever try vibrant again, not worth the risk.. It does have a feeding response so I'll continue to feed reefroids and small pellet food. Should I move it to a low flow and shaded area or leave it in its current location? thanks!
