So the other day I purchased a new tank from a guy on my local reef keeping Facebook group. Nice tank. Low iron glass. And it didn’t break the bank. One thing I’m concerned about is that while inspecting it, I asked about a couple hard water stains on the glass and before I could say anything more he had sprayed the whole inside and gave it a good rub down “that’ll take care of it” and it did but now I’m worried about the windex! What steps should I take before adding water/rock/fish/corals to the tank?

Rinse it out very good with ro/di water and you should be fine :)

Thanks a lot. That’s what I thought but from reading online I guess people had had trouble with it. I guess they just didn’t rinse enough

It would have been better if he had used vinegar. As long as you wash it thoroughly, It should be fine. I would wash with diluted vinegar and water and rinse with straight water well.

Windex is mostly water, alcohol, and ammonia... no big deal, but it does contain small amounts of perfume and surfactants.

I might wipe it down with a vinegar solution... let it dry completely.

New tank? If you do it anything like I do, you'll have it full of tap water and drained at least once while you're doing the plumbing and setup ;)

I’ll wash that windex out good with a little soap and water [emoji6]

In all seriousness I’m so excited and nervous for drilling my first tank! I’ve been playing around with the idea of having a return pipe in each corner of the tank but I don’t know how I’d hide the plumbing
