I don't have a "before" picture of my tank...but I have a terrible bryopsis problem. Which had gotten out of hand cuz my lfs told me it was hair algae and part of the process, so I left it for 2 weeks......ANYWAY...My tank is 4 weeks old and I'm a sad panda.

I just ordered my Kent Tech M and other testing kits for phosphates/Mg etc. It will be here next week.

In the mean time, I took my razor blade on my mag and took off the bryopsis on the front/sides. And scooped up the remnants floating around etc.

I can't reach the back because I'm fat and pregnant. #pregnancyproblems.
But the back of the tank is covered as well.

Before: sort of. You couldn't actually see through the front of my glass by today.

Wish me luck.

I read your post again, since the tank is only 4 weeks old you may want to consider relocating the fish and nuking the tank instead, brybosis can be difficult to deal with. Something to think about and congratulations on the pregnancy.

If it is indeed bryopsis, this is a good idea. toss the sand, acid bath the rock and start over. you don't want to mess with bryopsis.

Yupp, it definitely is...very fern like and taking over. My lfs confirmed it once i sent yhem a close up picture of the little offenders.

I'm going to try elevating my magnesium levels to see if it'd help...I have literally spent $1600 setting it up (tank was only 100, from a friend.) I'm pretty sure my husband would bury me if I scrapped it lol.

Can you post the picture you sent your lfs here and I am sure someone will confirm if it is indeed bryopsis or not. Short of nuking the tank you can also dip individual rocks in 3% hydrogen peroxide which seems to kill bryopsis.

I think i had that on frag plug before and with hydrogen peroxide dip. They are dead white the next day.

Unfortunately that won't help with any spores in the sand.
