Well, I took the plunge and bought a used 90 gallon reef setup at my local LFS. I think I got a good deal....tank, stand, sump, skimmer, light etc for $650. The worker said it was the owner's old tank so I would think it's all top of the line stuff. Looked like it anyway. Just got it home and in the house, going to take stock of what I've got in a little while.

That sounds like a fun adventure:)

What I got :

90 gal tank...no markings on it....looked at pictures of tanks online. Looks like Aqueon Megaflow
sump Pro Cleaner Aquatic systems 125 wet/dry with prefilter
light - brand is current. metal halide and LED. no model number and could not find like pic online
skimmer - coralife 125
heater - stealth ETP-200
2 spare metal halide lamps 150 w
Danner mfg. model 9.5B submersible pump
A couple power strips, a timer, assorted fish foods

$650.00

Anyone think this was a good deal?

Also, the tank and stuff has some dried up deposits, red, green and white. What cleaners can I safely use to clean this stuff up?

As long as the tank isn't scratched up and holds water then I would say it was a pretty good deal. I would plan for the long run to replace the light as those bulbs replacements will get spendy. A decent LED set can be had for $400-$500 new and will last for years. The good news is that with the replacement bulbs you should be able to run the current ones for a while.

Give the tank and equipment a good cleaning with with vinegar

Agreed White Distilled Vinegar is the most effective and safest method to clean a tank.
