I'm going to get furan today and I'll treat the trigger.
Once treatment has been completed
Should I then empty the tank and give it a vinegar wipe down and start it over? What would you do?

Drain it completely clean it with hydrogen peroxide is what I'd do. I'd a few day to a week then refil

Looks just like uronema. This will also explain the timeline.
Bleach the tank, toss any filter media, let dry and sit for a day or so.

I have been battling this stuff recently myself, it seems many of the la wholesalers have this in their systems and more than just the typical chromis are being affected.
This stuff is absolutely devastating. This is the only way I have been able to come out on top.
Get two tanks or buckets (I used 5 gal buckets for my anthias). 1 hour dip every other day in formalin. After the dip out the fish in a new sterile tank/bucket with new mixed water (or water from unaffected display) with a lower "bath" dosage and then sterilize the old tank/bucket and prepare it for the next transfer in 2 days.

I personally would wipe everything down using a mild bleach solution, rinse well and then let air dry thoroughly before using again. Bacteria can be tough to kill.

IME; Uronema typically turns white (excess mucous) before breaking out into an open red sore. It also stays more localized than what we're seeing on that butterfly.

The best approach is to decrease the salinity in the qt to match the bag water then top up with saltwater until until proper salinity is reached. A decrease in salinity is much easier for a fish to handle than an increase.

For sterilization, once treatment is over and all critters removed, you can add chlorine bleach at 1 mL per gallon while the tank is still circulating. Leave it circulating for 12 hours and then drain it and rinse, and let it dry out. Toss any filter media. No need to dechlorinate if you let it dry thoroughly.
