Women in Reefing

So happy to see your tanks!!

I run very high nutrients. Can you guess what my PO4 and NO3 are?

What are your nutrients?

Phosphates 1.15
Nitrates around 40
That would be nice. I had my phosphates up that high recently but a few acros started to brown out. What is the secret to maintaining good color?

It's the ratio of nitrates to phosphates. The Reddfield ratio. It's not the number that each nutrient is, it's the ratio that the both are in. So if you have high PO4 but low NO3, the corals will brown AFAIK. There are always exceptions to this, every system has a unique set of parameters.

CORRECTION BELOW! See Brew12s post.

Not to sidetrack this too much, but it is actually the ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus in all available forms. It may seem like a minor point but 16:1 of N: P is much different than 16:1 of NO3: PO4. For those not wanting to try and figure out what ratio their tank is at, you can disregard this! ;)

You are absolutely right and thanks for catching that. 16:1 for the redfield it is. Not NO3 and PO4.

This is great. But is there any outlet to connect to fellow women in the hobby other than FB? I don't do FB.

It would be awesome if we could have our own area of the forums but I doubt that will happen.
I think it could happen if someone organized it as a club! A lot of people also like Instagram.

This thread is a good way to connect with women reefers.

Started 30+ years ago, took a break and back in to the saltwater now that I am not kicking beef cattle in the butt . Lol, fish are much easier to wrangle.
