Age of tank? Nutrient levels? Do you make your own rodi water? Does your city use chlorine or chloramines? Have you ever changed your rodi filters?

Tank about 5 months old. Tests all come out perfect. Use rodi water the last 2 months. Before that it distilled water with no issues what so ever. Been fighting this for month n half. I have in my head it has to b dino’s

Out of curiosity have you ever tested the effluent of your rodi unit before storage? Specifically for ammonia?

I would check your source water to rule that out then proceed from there if its clean. Don't rely on TDS meters alone.

It might. But it could also spread to the rock. I run a bare bottom and love it but I struggle to keep nutrients up.

I'm wondering if your city perhaps switched to chloramines from chlorine and it's slipping past your carbon filter. Try swapping the regular carbon for catalytic carbon and see if it lightens up a little. You said it's been going on for about a month and a half and that's about the time cities start dumping weird stuff in our water.
