So much for the tropic eden media I ordered. Also ordered a carbon Doser both from Modern Aquatix. They took the money out of my account but didn’t have the media nor the carbon Doser in stock. And the carbon Doser was on sale! How do you put some on sale you don’t have.

I dont think the carbon doser ever go on sale.

Carib-Sea Florida Crushed Coral was the recommended choice for MTC back in the day.
Works for me.

I know about the carbon Doser I think the sale was a B.S ploy from Modern aquatixs. It was supposed to sell for $319 so I took a chance. They’ve refunded my money. Here’s a reborn alternative I have found. Hope it pans out. Its called Middle Keys marine life LLC. It’s selling it’s wares on Amazon. I’ve ordered 10 LBs to check out. Looks like reborn. Maybe have to pick out a few extra shells but Hope it’s better than than the ARM I’m using now. Site says it’s great for calcium reactors. You’ll need to go to their store front to order 10 lb bags. Look for the Large size not the fine.

I’ve read somewhere that they may contain some silica. So I’m planning to pick them out. They could cause diatoms If they do. it’s about the same price as reborn for 10 lb as apposed to 8.8 lb so if you have to pick them out it’ll be a wash. I’m planning on rinsing well and sorting then soaking in R.O. For a couple of days just in case.

If I’m wrong about the silica some one please tell me! The small or fine size looked like it had more shells than the regular or larger size. The larger size looked like reborn.

Update on the Middle Keys product. It looks good and after sorting out the shells and small rocks it look like reborn. Here are the pics. Will rinse well and soak in RO for a while. Looks like out of 10 lbs I ordered I may have had maybe 1/2 lb of shells And rocks.

That does look pretty promising actually. Thanks for the guinea pig work and sharing. Its now in my cart.

Anyone have an update from TLF? Despite the enthusiasm of the first post in this thread, reborn has been little more than a trickle at this point. I get that there is likely a lot of pent up demand, but it remains out-of-stock in all the places I have looked.

I just replied back to the response I got from @julian of Two Little Fishies on May 27 with the "good news". Asked if he had any suggestions on other distributors I should keep an eye on for Reborn.

Your initial skepticism is looking rather prescient two months on. I can harvest a couple lbs of monti cap and stylo but the cupboard is otherwise bare. Just ordered 10lbs of the Middle Keys stuff. May have to mix up a couple buckets of ESV if this keeps up.

I will give Julian some credit. He responds to emails fairly promptly.

Just said it will be "another month or so" of limited shipments to BRS, Saltwateraquarium.com and Marine Depot.

Translated... first part of 2021? Is that what a month means if the original post was a week?

Shells and stuff should be OK. They might not even melt.

Here is what the Middle Keys stuff looks like clean and sorted I set aside any larger pieces to be put on the bottom of the reactor and then the rest above that then some crushed coral for the last couple of inches. My avast seabones is finicky about the larger stuff like ARM course media. With some Neo Mag thrown in the mix.

Just grow your own! Though it’s kind of a long and painful process, this is what I resorted to when I ran low. You don’t want to know what some of those corals were...
