I call this a "working" refugium because it has become my biological filter system with almost no effort from me at all. I have one little Blue Green Chromis in there becasue he was being terrorized by his other tank mates. He gets feed a very small amount 2x a week and seems content. 2 red leg hermits, a margarita snail, 1 emerald crab, a turbo snail and a peppermint shrimp plus at least 10 different species of plants including a cool coralline plant (in the front center). Also lots of copods that I feed my fish when they get trapped in the sock filter.

This sits next to my display tank with a black cloth seperating them since this has the light on 24/7.

First pic is now. 2nd pic is 2 months ago.

This has been up and running now for 2-3 months and my display tank is always crystal clear with no nusance algae at all. I really am happy that I went this route of keeping my tank running smooth without using chemicals.

I love the idea of a display refugium. That coralline is awesome. Some day I will have one.

Looking Nice, Have you considered to add mangroves to it ?
I have considered mangroves and may get that started in the near future. There is a large live rock in the middle that I could start it on. Although I have my light mounted very close to the water, may have to raise it a bit.
