An interesting result, thanks for sharing.

The challenging part is going to be making lime without releasing CO2. Lime is made by heating crushed limestone in a kiln at high temperatures. Heating the kiln releases CO2 because, as of now, the heating process uses fossil fuels. Then, there's the CO2 trapped in the limestone that's released when the limestone is heated.

Removing CO2 from the ocean using lime is only viable long term if we don't release more CO2 making the lime than the lime absorbs.

it's clearly more interesting in concept than practical application, but it is indeed a start....

It could be a legitimate application. It all depends on our ability to de-carbonize the industrial process that makes the lime. This is something we're going to need to do for our concrete industries anyway.

If we ever get to the point where we could use solar heat to run the kiln and trap the CO2 that the rock emits when heated, this could be a zero emissions process. At that point, dosing this "clean" line wouldn't just shifting CO2 around, the result is a net CO2 reduction.
