worm/bug/ I dont know, found swiming in my sump

Hello
can someone help me id this guy, he about the size on a grain of rice. I found him swimming in my sump.

dang, I accidentally killed him when I sucked out of the sump with my feeding syringe. I kind of freaked out and thought it was a worm

It was actually an amphipod.

well on the bright side this is my first sighting of life (other then the fish and snails that I put in)

You've probably got more than a few in your tank. They tend to hide unless its dark.

Amphipods are awesome. Honestly, I wish I could get colonies of amphipods, they're a great snack for fish and they help keep things clean.

Aside from a very few I've seen in the fuge, my wrasse wipe them out instantly.
