Is this a bobbit worm?

Lol. Im glad i got it out while it is small. He was really going after my shrimp bait

Did you pull him out of some rock or something? I'm not seeing a butt. I think half of him may still be in the tank.

Its on a rock on top though. Do you think a freshwater dip will flush it out?

Even though logic would tell me they are both pieces of the same worm, there's a difference in them that make me think it's not the same worm.

You can see the gills in the top half.

You can see the gills in this piece.....

You can't see gills in this piece....

Looks like you have a couple or even several. I would take that rock out and any others you got with it and soak for 48 hours in fresh water in a bucket or two. Under no circumstance do you want even a piece of one left in your tank. Each piece can grow another worm and when stressed, they drop multiple pieces of themselves in order to insure their survival. They will decimate your livestock.

I do have the peice it was in soaking but the live rock has been in the tank for a year. Do they grow slow?

Just to clarify, these aren't actually true "Bobbit worms" that you see catching fish in the popular videos. Most of these guys are just scavengers and only the Eunice aphroditois (The Bobbit) are fish hunters.

Im glad. Here is a picture of the pinchers. There black. Ill try to upload the video of them in action.
