Worm/pest or not?

Hello i recently started up a saltwater tank and finally started to purchase some corals. My tank is cycled with green coraline algae growing all over with all dryrock and sand. Im trying o prevent pest in my tank so i need help ID if this coral has some sort of worms on it or not? It was a freebie i recieved that broke off the plug when it arrived. This is on the back of the frag where it was glued on the plug.

They look kind of like Serpulidae worms IMO. (harmless) The link below might help.

Would it die if i cut off the parts sticking out? Its pratically inside the coral.
