I found a bunch of these worm like things swimming around after lights out. They appear pink to the naked eye, biggest ones I see are about 5-6mm, they have no problem swimming in the fastest current I have and also appear to like light. Any ideas on what they are and more importantly are they a pest or a curiosity? The photos were take through the lens of a 40 power microscope.

Bristle worms/larvae...they are good and reef safe. You just don’t want a large population of them as that is a tell tale sign your overfeeding. Yes their are some fish and inverts that will eat them and keep numbers down as well, but over feeding never presents itself as beneficial towards maintaining optimum water parameter levels either.

Interesting. I have always looked at bristle worms as a good part of my clear up crew. This is the first time in over a decade of reefing that I 've seen them swimming. This hobby never stops surprising me. Thanks for the ID.

Epitoke ....larvae stage of a bristle worm.
