Hey all, 4-5 months ago I decided that fighting my vermetids was a losing battle and the aiptasia I thought were gone started popping up again. I bleached my rock for a week, fresh water for a week and air dried it for a week before starting the tank back up. all corals went into quarantine and I was careful to remove all the frag plug/dead skeletons I could. Within a month I noticed an explosion of hydroids I never saw before. They seemed to stick to darker areas and after all that work I just threw my hands in the air and said "I give up, no more tank teardowns". since then they have slowly dwindled to near non existence. I still see a few here and there but they seem relatively harmless. Should I be concerned about these?

Just the other day I noticed some little black dots lined up all over the pathetic ball of cheato that I cant get to grow. a few days later I noticed they had all bloomed into a hydroidish looking umbrella. I promptly removed that cheato.

about a month ago I noticed these strange worms. they look banded and their tail tapers to a tip. They are 1/2-2/3" long and can be found on the glass and rock quickly snaking around and munching away on algae or biofilm. they can move very quickly in a snake like motion.

A couple months ago I added a bunch of baby trochus snails. to my delight they started breeding and producing even more microscopic babies! I document it in this thread https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/how-early-can-trochus-snails-breed.466745/ . Recently I found one that looks like a cross between a sundial snail snail. It has the coloration of a trochus but it is more flatened and it moves with it's shell vertical. it has the same face as the trochus snail and can right itself when flipped over. Is this just a mutated trochus snail?

Lastly, while looking for new baby trochus snails I noticed this tiny whelk or conch looking snail. I'm not sure what it is or where it could have come from being so small. Aside from a montipora(dipped and quarantined) and urchin added two months ago, I haven't added anything new in 6+ months. I threw this guy away very quickly.

I looked up bobbit worm before because they look similar but their behavior doesn’t really match. These worms are active and can be seen snaking around on the rocks munching away everything in its path. They dont sit and wait for prey to pass by. It’s difficult to capture with my phones camera but he appears to have two or more jaws sticking out. Not tentacles like the bobbit.

BUMP

I found a second one of these conical shaped snail/whelk. Both were found in my refugium and never seen until today. Aside from an urchin and a montipora that was dipped, quarantined two months and dipped again nothing has been added in 6 months. Both were found motoring along on the glass. Could these possibly be baby nassarius snails? I have about 20 in my display. The color pattern and shape doesn’t seem to match up but maybe they grow out of that? I have had a ton of success with trochus babies spawning in the tank. I started with ~70 smaller than 0.15” and within months i had hundreds.

A 1ml syringe is in the picture for size reference

Well i found one result of a snail that appears to be identical to mine. Still not sure if its reef safe but likely since i didnt find it bothering corals.

And my “mutant trochus” snails... i believe they may be babies from my margarita snails(the cheap colder water version”. They look very similar and i’ve been finding more and more. Now i feel bad that i froze the first two.

This one is not one of those horror you tube species that people freak out about.
