Hello R2R, I am trying to figure out the best course of action with my new tank. Although cycling is not new to me, the amount of algae I am encountering on this one has me incredibly puzzled on what to do. Long story short, the tank started up on the 16th and I have been throwing in some brine shrimp to feed a few hitchhiking cyphastrea polyps that were sure to die in the stores liverock bin. I do not want the coral to die as it is making a great recovery, but I fear that keeping the coral alive has algae taking over the tank. Bryopsis, hair algae, some weird stringy turf algae and some other stuff that I have no idea but it is very unsightly. Being the tank is just starting to cycle, would it be better to shut the lights off and let things be for a while knowing this will surely kill the hitchhiking LPS? Will shutting the lights off kill the bryopsis? Or maybe a very short light cycle, and if so how many hours? This is my first battle with this type of algae along with the stringy turf stuff so I need some expert opinions. Thank you for any advice you have to offer.

Did you start with live rock or dry? Add at min 1 hermit per gallon or more and 1 emerald crab per 5-10 gal
