Worst part of NYOS nitrate test kit!!!

Who here thinks NYOS should get a different dropper bottle for their nitrate kit?? IMO it is by far the worst dropper bottle of any kit I’ve ever used. Half drops, drops on the table, drops everywhere but where i want them! Never once have i had this issue with Salifert or Red Sea. We should petition NYOS to change their bottle.

Agreed. Its a surprise how it will be performing each test. I also end up with way more powder then liquid reagent when done the test box.

Same here. Love the readability of their test, but hate that constantly leaking bottle. Sticking with Salifert at the moment, and just hope they will upgrade this someday.

My issue when I used it, it was hard to match the shades of brown. It always said 5ppm, but in reality when I used a red sea, and salifert kit it was more like 20. I've never used NYOS since.

Interesting…I’ve always perceived it as yellow / orange. I think people’s perception of certain colors are different. I’ve always been able to easily discern the shades used for Nyos nitrate. My only complaint is that stupid, leaky bottle!

That’s how i feel about Salifert alk. I didn’t realize how good it was until i dealt with the discrepancies i got from the Hanna Checker. I know you can supposedly refrigerate it for better results but Salifert alk is ALWAYS on point. As far as Nyos nitrate goes…like i said earlier, i have zero problems discerning the colors and it’s definitely consistent. IMO it’s way easier to determine the shades than the Salifert. Do you have other reasons you prefer it other than color readability? (And the stupid leaky bottle which is the point of this post?)

Had exactly the same experience with Hanna alk. The reagent slowly drifted over time creating the illusion my alk was dropping. Ended up with a swing 2 times before I decided I’d stick to Salifert from there on. It’s easy, cheap and most importantly, reliable.

For me the thing with Salifert Nitrate is that you fill it with just 1ml. Because of this, you have a really thin later to read the color from. If you look from the top, the tint can even be a little different towards the edges. From the side works much better, but then you can only read till 10 ppm.
