Would you upgrade from a 25 gallon to a 50 gallon or is it not really much more bang for your buck? I’m debating if I want to upgrade.

I love my 25 but I’d love to be able to get a bigger scape / different fish.

Any input?

I would still want an AIO don’t want to do a sump. I do like the lagoon look like a waterbox 50.1 or the IM lagoon 50

Yes, you will see a benefit in moving to a lagoon style tank - as this gives the fish a lot more room to swim around in. Plus, depending on the type of fish - it's easy to have multiple "swim lanes", ie: fish that free swim near the top 1/3, fish that swim in and around the rocks and those that like being near the sand bed.

I am getting more and more tempted. I’d love to be able to rescape and get some room to expand a bit.

I need to also decide what direction my tank is going haha

I started with an Im 50 gal aio in 2020 & upgraded to the 80 gal aio, 2 weeks ago. I wish I would've started with the 80 gal lol

@navada718 whatcha doing with that old 50 ;) jk. I think 50 would be my max. I don’t want the work of more and I already mix 5 gal for my 25 so I’m used to it etc.
Im selling the 50 gal aio. I live in a 2 bedroom apt & promised myself I'd never have more than 2 tanks...I currently have 5: 55 gallon freshwater, 80 gallon salt, 10 gallon qt tank, 10 gallon ato reservoir & the 50 aio. This an addictive hobby. Not trying to persuade you, but there isn't much of a difference of maintenance & husbandry between a 50 gallon & 80 gallon. If your more than 50% sure, your not going to want to upgrade tanke sizes in 3-5 years, go with the 50 gallon. If not, go bigger now. I purchased both tank used & they were less than a year old. Actually, the 80 gallon was 4 months old & I got with the aps stand for a great deal. Just my 2 cents.

Dang if you were closer I’d snag that 50 aio. No I’d be done with 50 gallons. I don’t want to go bigger. I’m 90% happy after 1 year with my 25 so the 50 would get me to 100% happy. Just a few things I’d want with a bit more size.

Any time you can double the size of what you have, it could be worth it. Like others have said if 50 is the max you think you will go, then that is the right size for you.

Will 2x the space you happy for a long while……if so go ahead.
There’s a ton of work as you know to upgrade….go as big as you can…..you may have it for multiple decades….

I went 20, 60, 180 in 5 years, the last jump was as big as I dare.

I went from a 32 gallon to a 40 breeder and to me that 18 additional gallons makes a world of difference.

If you don't really want to go much bigger than a 50, then perhaps look at breeder tanks, the unique dimensions give more swimming space and give the appearance that the tank is larger than it actually is. They do make 50 breeders.

Do they make them AIO? That’s an interesting idea to have a longer tank. I did like the lagoon style but am open to longer.

What fish did you want to keep to have a longer tank?

I don't know, sorry, I think AIO's are mainly cube type tanks.

If you want the breeder, then you got to drill it. It sounds a lot more scary than it is, its actually pretty easy, but might be a bit much for a new hobbyist.

If it's for a specific fish, or a specific coral, or just some working room I'd upgrade, besides that next jump would be closer to 100 gallons. If you're looking for more room, it's gonna last you a couple months

Tideline 62 gallon AIO. I don't have any personal experience with them, but the dimensions seems right up your alley

This is a hobby of upgrades. Many of us upgrade all the time. If you have the room and funds and can increase your livestock and coral additions - it's worth moving forward but also assess where you want to be a year or two from now.
If you have dream fish such as tangs who get larger, then wait and get a 90 gallon or 125 gallon instead

Ya I’m not sure if tangs are ever in my ideas. It would be cool to have a yellow but not sure. It would be more for smaller schooling fish. I’d just want a lot of movement.

Can you do just more of schooling fish instead of larger fish? I need to research that more
