I have the basic three stage filter from BRS but see most people use the RO/DI 4-7 stage one... all my fish and coral seem to be doing well although I am pretty new to hobby, have had tank up for about three months. corals all have nice poly extension and color but havnt really seen much growth from them. is buying the extra filtration stages worth the money?

What's the quality of your raw water?

When you say three stage, that's a sediment filter, one carbon block, membrane and DI resin?

Are you able to measure you tds coming out?

yeah, the filter has a tds metter and it says 0 but the income says its only around 45 and when I test my tap water with a separate metter its usually around 150-200 so idk how accurate that metter is

and the other meter I mentions says the RO water when filtered is like 25 so idk which one is true lol

also the other meter I got from my father who works for the water company and its super fancy.. but I also got RO/DI water from my LFS before I got my own filter and I tested it and the meter also said that water had a TDS of around 25

It’s a four stage actually

That is odd. May be testing error on one of the readings. Your water into the ro should be same source as tap, no?

yeah it comes from the water that goes into the washer so I assume its the same as tap

That’s basically what I run. Membrane, filter, carbon, di

If it is reading 0 on your output I should say it is ok. Are you on a water system with chloramines?

im really not sure, how would I tell?

also, how often do you replace the filters?

You can check for chloramine use usually thru the city website. Changing filters really depends on use, so there really isnt a set period other than use.

If your not on system with chloramine you arefine

@redfishbluefish ?

my city does not use chloramine ! :)

25 is way high for a 75gpd film tec 99% rejection. After the membrane, for the 1st reading. Your second reading is out of the di.
When you measured 25, was that right after start up? Could have been part of the tds spike. Let it run a few minutes, then check the first number

Your dual mounted meter reads membrane out, and di out.
