I want to add a couple of fish to my 180g mixed reef. I want them to be reef safe and peaceful. I just re-homed a Coral Beauty, Powder Blue, Pinktail Trigger and Valentini Puffer, so my husband thinks it looks boring now. So in light of his need for entertainment, I need to add something. Does anyone have experience with the Swallow Tail Angel? Here is my current list of inhabitants:
1 - Sailfin Tang (8 - 9")
1 - Scopas tang (5")
1 - Red Velvet Fairy Wrasse
1 - Blue Sided Fairy Wrasse
3 - Scissor Tail Dartfish -just purchased a week ago
1 - Target Mandarin
1 - Bicolor Blenny
1 - Yellow Tail Damsel
1 - Pink Spotted Watchman Goby
1 - Violet Gramma - tiny and just purchased a week ago
1 - Long Nosed Hawkfish
2 - True Percula Clowns
2 - Skunk Cleaner Shrimp

I think I would like one larger fish or a small school of something. Any suggestions?

I would skip the hawk fish if you want shrimp. Other than that your list looks good. All Genicanthus angels are A+ in my book, love them all.

Brett, I already have the hawkfish and cleaner shrimp. I've had them for almost three years....so far so good, but the hawk is just now getting big enough to do damage if he feels so inclined. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I purchased 1 male Bartlett and 2 females (thank you for the suggestion Pappy!) . I also got 3 Bangaii. :bounce:

The only time I've seen 3 Bangaii work its been two males that stay on their own side and the female goes back and fourth between the two but this is really rare. If you end up with multiple females it won't go well.

Hey Connie! You sooo gotta get a Blue Dot Jawfish!! And I wanna see it! It's the perfect reef fish! Also I've asked them at reefLife to find me a Fingered Dragonet. Both of these are fairly rare fish and fun additions.

Thanks for the heads up on the Bangaii. They are OK right now. I quess the LFS that sold them to me didn't know that.

Liquid, I'd love to have a jawfish, but my sand bed isn't deep enough.

So you're saying that your sandbed is totally inadequate? That's sad but I think at one time or another we've all question the depth of our sandbed and wondered if it had enough to offer. How deep is it? I think they require 4-6min but not necessarily throughout the entire tank. It's important for me to note that I could be completely wrong.

Yes, inadequate is exactly what I'm saying. If I bought the little guy, I'd want him to have what he needs and don't feel I have the environment to make him truly happy. My sandbed is 1" to 2" depending on area of the tank. I am in the process of adding a bag of live sand now (a few cups a day) to deepen it a little, but it won't really make a measurable difference in a 180g. It's plenty IMO for my snails, but that's about it. Do you agree or disagree? I could just pile up several inches in a corner for it though.

With a reef setup you don't need that much sand. I'd stay where you're at. After a couple inches I think it becomes a sense of aesthetics or a desire to keep a certain species. However I do really wanna see one of these so perhaps I'm not making the right recommendation... you seriously need around 10in of sand. Otherwise everything in your tank could die!!
