Would like suggestions on fish for 55 gallon.

So I would like some opinions on finishing stocking my 55 gallon tank. I just upgraded to a 55 gallon from a 30 gallon. I currently have a mandarin and a valentini puffer. Im trying to get an idea of how many fish i could have and which fish would be more compatible fish for the 2 I already have. I really want a potters angel. My gf wants some clowns and an anemone.

Tell me how you might finish stocking my tank.

it kind of depends on what fish you decide to add. I think you could do what you want and your gf (the anemone only if you have sufficient lighting and good water parameters) - I would add the clowns last. I think that may be about it in terms of stocking if you go with all of those.

Firefish are great looking but they are notorious for jumping. I like clownfish; they are still my favorites. If I were buying a another pair I would go for Picassos. And fishroomlady is dead on about adding them last.
If you add fish slowly you should be fine. You might have to upgrade your skimmer though.

I have a mated pair of clowns a mandarin a small lawn mower Benny ( just added) a small clown goby that has survived almost 5 yrs and a chromis if it's a reef keep less fish to help keep stable levels due to less fish waste

I would add a pair of clowns and a small hawkfish. I am assuming you have no shrimp since you have the puffer. Be careful not to add anything that would compete with the mandarin since you may have issues with his dietary needs in the long run.

Someone at my local lfs said that clowns can be aggressive and may beat up the Potters angel. I thought clowns were peaceful fish. Is what the lfs said true?

In a 55 I don't see any clowns besides something like a maroon or say a tomato being aggressive to another fish without reason, any clown will potentially try to keep other fish out of whatever area they are hosting within.. I had two clowns in my 55 with several other fish and the clowns only bothered other damselfish such as the chromis. The baby Tomini tang, fire fish, any wrasses were left completely alone. I never had angels, I highly doubt you will have issues as long as you don't have the more aggressive species of clownfish.

Just know any of the dwarf angels are hit or miss when it comes to keeping them with corals. However, if you are dead set on getting one and are worried about it with the clowns you can try adding it first than follow up with the clowns. I am unsure of the minimum tank requirements for a potters angel as well you may want to make sure a 55 is sufficient.
