If you're willing to spend "300ish" why not just by new?

I'd recommend you search for tank breakdown or "getting out" threads. If it's over 100g chances are high they had a controller. If they have one, chances are also high it is apex.

If you buy a used one and the ph probe isn't stored correctly it's a waste and will cost you more money that you should just spend on a new unit.
