Just curious: We stress having a proper cleanup crew in the DT to take care of detritus, but I never see anyone speak about a dedicated CUC for the sump, which is the final resting place for much of the detritus that collects in the tank anyway.

Why is that? Wouldn't it be just as advantageous to have a crew of snails and hermits, brittle stars and even peppermint shrimp here as well, especially those that run a refugium or have a lot of live rock in the sump?

I throw some of the hitchhikers I've found in the sump, but I'm asking about a purpose-built sump clean up crew. Does anyone utilize one?

Yep. Ceriths, Ninja Stars are my go to CUC guys. Hate hermits. And kinda hate peppermints too. They both kill snails.

I've tossed a few hitchhikers down there before.
I've added a peppermint shrimp too, once I've seen aiptasias.
I've added a turbo snail or 2 for hair algae popping up.
But have not planned out a cleanup crew for the sump.
IMO it should be " add as you need" type thing.
