So I have been thinking about making a cabinet as a lid without a bottom so I can access the aquarium.
Plus I want to mount the AI prime lights that I'm saving for on top.
Is this a bad idea or not, I have some bad concept art to show what my idea is.

The lights need air flow so you may need to install fans in the top or such. You may have some salt creep so prepare how to manage that.
Maybe I could cut some holes in the top for the lights and maybe install a filter and a fan to cool if needed. :)
Can gas exchange happen?

It doesn't sound like it's any different than a "hood" just maybe it has a back? Agree with teh other comments. You're going to want holes above the AI 's to allow them to ventilate properly. Probably would hurt to have a hol,e with screen on either side as well to allow for air to come into the hood.
