So I noticed some white spots on our tang this evening. The tang is also acting a little differently than usual. Typically it is swimming all around the tank. Now it sits in the corner or in the rocks, a list like it is trying to hide. Is this ich?

It’s hard to tell. That looks like a pretty small powder brown.

If it’s behavior is changing it’s a fair bet that it’s severe ich or likely velvet.

Unfortunately you’ll need to remove all fish, treat in copper power and measure with a Hanna copper checker or Chloroquine Phosphate in quarantine.

Acanthurus tangs, particularly powder brown, powder blue, goldrim, and achilles, are almost all completely unable to cope with parasites in most home aquaria.

Agree with both @4FordFamily and @Humblefish. The reclusiveness and number of spots appearing in one day have me a bit concerned it may be the start of velvet.

Thanks all. Guess I'll be starting an emergency QT tomorrow. I have some leftover equipment from a freshwater tank I had years ago. If I bleach the filter (not the floss / sponge, that will come out of my sump) and the heater, could they be reused in the QT?
