This is the magnet that attaches the wet side of my icecap gyre to the aquarium. I was inspecting all my magnets and discovered this discoloration which has also transferred to the rubber that it sits against. Would this be a cause for concern?

Yes, that would concern me. Any visible signs of corrosion would cause me to immediately remove the item from my tank. I had one of the Gyre's motor blocks corrode through the plastic housing.

It lust looks like algae in the pic. Is there any swelling or cracking. I would scrub it off and look hard. Usually when magnets go bad they "bloom" and swell.

Agreeing with you is passive aggressive?
You only have two choices and I am supposed to decide from a pic I cant even zoom in much on.
If it isn't algae then 100% don't put it in your tank anymore. Bad magnets are bad news.

I am putting you on ignore now so I dont risk being unintentionally passive aggressive anymore.

Have a nice day

Do you want to kill all your corals over a magnet? Thats your answer.

The magnet is going away anyways, more so just curious if it could explain my acros only thrive when I’m doing 5% water changes every day

I would agree with others that any sign of degradation means that it would not be in my tank. You already said the magnet was going anyways. I am curious what model of iceap gyre pump this is from, not that it matters really, I assume all of the magnets come from the same place.

The neodymium magnets inside it contain many metals that contribute or cause tissue necrosis noted by many.
