Would this hurt?

I can't see how any part of the visible light spectrum could hurt any of our animals eyes.....short of super bright light. This is especially true of red light, the lowest energy of the visible light spectrum. Because of it's long wavelength it also penetrates very poorly in water.

Let's see if our light expert has anything to add..... @Dana Riddle

I’ve heard.... not sure if this is true, but they can’t see red! I managed to catch a foxface with ease using red lights,

Probably not, as I collected snails and crabs in shallow tide pools (sometimes just inches deep) in Hawaii. However, I suspect there are differences among species eyes' spectral sensitivities. There is evidence that photoreceptors in many marine species are more sensitive to blue than red light for obvious reasons. I do know that many fishes can see light up to about 600nm (orangish) and not beyond. And some fishes can see well into the ultraviolet-A range. Which brings up another subject - fishes' diets and concentrations of mycosporine-like amino acids in the lenses of their eyes, but I digress.

Never heard of this before
