So I have a extra ai prime hd 16 laying around could I turn that into a refugium light to grow Chaeto? If so what setting should I run it on?

It should work OK. I think you could run it using as much white and red as you can. The blue and other colors are OK, but not as much help growing macro algae.

Would be a beauty

Did you end up using the prime as a fuge light?
I’m considering to do the same.
I have not turned it on yet my levels are too good currently haha, but yes I did end up using is it’s a really nice Fuge light.

A white LED ******is******* a blue LED but with a bit of green and tiny bit of orange. Would you like to see a spectrograph of a white LED?

Even so, there is no evidence that macros prefer red or blue with both colors having both equal PAR value. Honestly, if we had a drinking game of any time bad color science was quoted in this forum myself and Dana would be in Betty Ford long ago.

Nice thing about this little prime is I can change the color to strictly red so there is no other colors has a ton of play with this light.

I don't know that I would go so far as to say "no evidence", as we know of many marine macroalgaes that have specific pigments that respond to different wavelengths and seem to confer a growth benefit compared with others :). But, your point is largely sound that differences in spectrum for most macroalgaes we're growing in the hobby is a pretty small effect and one the average hobbyist can likely ignore.

Having the same PAR doesn't mean they use both. The PUR is the issue. Lets go to Dana and ask the question.

Finally got around to taking the picture... will add better ones shortly.

I'm also thinking of using a AI Prime HD for my refugium. Have you had any issues so far? And would you mind posting your light parameters? How long are you running the light etc? This will be my first time running a refugium so I need all the advice I can get!
