I am sure this has been discussed many times before, but I have been wondering... if you just did regular small water change, say 5 gallons per day on a 125 gallon tank, would that be enough to keep everything happy as far as water quality? Fish, soft/hard corals and inverts? Or would I have to still add trace elements/alk/cal? Thanks!

It'll depend heavily on your bioload, and your consumption. If you have a bunch of corals, and they're consuming alk and calcium faster than you can replenish it, you'll have to supplemental dose. It's definitely something you can try, and closely monitor your calcium and alkalinity and see if it dips to low.
