A local aquatic store is closing its doors after 15 yrs of serving the community, really sad actually. They are liquidating all their stock and they offered me a 150gallon for $100. it's so cheap because the plastic framing around the base is chipped at the back corner. While it remains water tight, it still makes me nervous that the glass was affected and may have been stressed. It's a reef ready tank with dual corner overflows and comes with the tubing. It's not my dream set up, but a great upgrade from my 60gallon. My question to all of you is would you buy it despite it's dimensions and system not being your ideal set up as the price of it can't be beat. What would you do?

A picture will help. Did the store have it filled with water and the broken trim? If it worked for them I don't see why it won't work for you.

This is what it looks like, it's not very deep. They didn't have water in the tank, but tested the area. The caulking is intact. For sure it would be easy to replace the trim. The question is more would you buy it despite the dimensions not being what you have been thinking for awhile. I personally like deeper tanks, 30" plus, and not stress so much over height. But a 150 gallon at this price is so attractive, so it's become a little confusing to me.

150 gallons are tall which is very nice.....but i hate reef ready tanks because the overflow takes up too much room....Id rather drill it myself....The trim can be replaced/fixed with a little time and no money.....I bought a 75 gallon a couple years ago just because it was a great price....I sold it six months later and made 300 bucks with some equipment i had laying around

If I was you I would wait to get the dimensions you want. Even if it costs you an extra $150. You don't want to buy a tank and have buyers remorse.

You can also think of it this way. At $100 you should have no problem selling it if it holds water. So you can sell it once you get the tank you wanted or use it as a sump. It really a personal choice and dependent on your money situation.

It's a great deal money wise but if it's not what you really want you have to ask yourself if you'll be happy with it once it's all set up and established or will you still be wanting the setup you've been dreaming about.

I think you're confused on how much a 30"deep tank will cost

yes it's a standard 150, and yes i think he is confused as to how much more a 30" tank costs lol, at least here in montreal. They aren't cheap

I picked my 300 gallon 3ft deep tank for $500 with stand, sump and t5 lights. The whole point is if you really want a deeper tank save up and get it when you are ready. Check out the Monsterfishkeepers.com marketplace. A $100 for a beat up 150 is a good price but far from the deal of a lifetime.

Thanks everyone for the input. I was curious to see what people's opinions were on this. I will be passing on it as I really don't like skinny tanks. I may buy it to flip it, but it could be a great deal for someone else who can't afford to buy a bigger tank at full pop. Price is not a huge deal to me within reason, so 100$ is not a make it or break deal. The dimensions are though. I try to never settle for anything, I find it usually leads to regrets and neglect.
