On today’s episode… I have a local guy selling a Red Sea Reefer 250. He’s asking $800 for it (retail is $1679). He says it was cracked at one point but it has been fixed and was holding water a month ago when he last had it set up. Reason he said he’s selling it now is because he upgraded to a larger tank. This is another situation where I’m NOT desperate. I just want more space than my current 29g is providing, but my wife will have my head if I try to buy one of these at retail AND pay for shipping. I’ve included an image below of it holding water. So…what are your thoughts?

Edit- It DOES include the original sump.

I personally would not buy this. The cracked and being fixed part is a no go for me. Then is being shimmed with paper towels on the corners. I’m Out!

Do you know where the "crack was or how big? Who did the repair? I would walk away, it may be my area but there are far better deals for less questionable equipment.

Never buy cracked tanks ever.. its like buying a boat with a hole in it thats just taped up with flexseal or something lol.

nope.
support your local.
Unfortunately my locals don’t sell pre-drilled tanks. And none of the tanks they do sell have non-tempered bottoms. I know I could always have the back drilled; but my last two tanks have been that style. I want to give a go at corner or rear overflows with drilled bottoms.

what size tank you looking for?

Just something bigger than a 29g. lol Honestly 55 and up would be great. I’ve got a 90g standard in the basement but I didn’t want to set it up where I live currently. So with that I would say somewhere between 40-80g. The catch is that the IDEAL space I have to place it in is 38” long. I could push it past that (up to about 72”) by turning a piece of furniture, but don’t really want to; because one side of the tank would be against a window at that point. We keep the curtain closed on that window…but still.
