Would you direct the main siphon elbow down?

I have a 40B and I have two holes in the back tank. I just would like another persons opinion. If I am going to do a herbie with a "Trickle" emergency drain. should I worry with a overflow that works like a herbie? Pics to be uploaded in 5 minutes

I guess I am confused with what you are asking.

Are you asking if you should have the main drain line pointed down or leave it open at the top?

Yes like that but the bulkhead is where the T and the Elbow meet. But instead of a T a ball valve to get a siphon and the emergency with the T. Or would you do a Durso style standpipe connecting the glass and a ball valve to fine tune?

Okay, just making sure, I just cannot decide where to plumb the 2nd drain. Wether over the foam return pump filter or by my skimmer.

If its for the emergency I wouldnt worry as not much water should be going down it anyways. I have mine going into the return section as I dont have much room in the skimmer department.

Thats the exact boat Im in. The skimmer is oversized and the sump is a 1st gen RS-75
