I currently have the Duncan in the sand bed on its plug. I have to say, this guy is super happy. I've been feeding it everyday with meaty foods and it fully extends throughout the day.

But, I want this thing to get big! It only grew two heads since I bought it back in April of last year. Do you think having it in the sand bed is stunting growth? My LFS swears that stress from the sand will stunt growth, but I've rarely seen it ticked off. It's generally happy!

If you would move it, where would you put it? My tank is a little crowded!

I don't think being on the sand bed has anything to do with it's growth. Your lighting along with keeping things like alkalinity, calcium & magnesium in the right proportions is most likely the culprit. As far as moving it goes, I would probably put it right where those pink things are behind the GSP on the right. (Xenia?) Move that down to the sand bed. As the Duncan grows it will fill up that whole corner of the tank.

I don't know exactly why but my Duncans grow like weeds. I started with a single one with 7 heads. In 18 months I'm now to the point of frags of frags of frags. That single Duncan has probably produced well over 100 heads. I've had them low and high and don't see much difference in growth. I do target feed with Mysis and reef roids 2x week. They seem to grow more in medium or better flow. I think fragging them stimulates more growth

They do better on the sand bed, it gives them room to grow out. I started off with1 head and now it's bigger that a softball. Some branches a growing multiple heads. All on the sand bed.

Thanks guys! I'll just leave it in the sand bed for now. I don't think my params are off...

Ca 460ppm
Alk 11dkm
Ph 8.2

There was a recent spike in nitrate and ammonia, due to adding several new fish. But before that all other toxic params were at or near 0. My recent spike is being handled. Has not been on going

I'll just give it time!
