Would you pay over $6000 for a fish?

Would you spend $6,249.99 for one fish?

There are fish out there that I might consider paying several thousand for.

Not that one in the first post, though, no way.

Who is selling the 6k fish?

Yeah, if I was a billionaire I’d spend that and more... Who cares? People struggle to fathom the difference between the median income and that of the ultra wealthy... Some earn several thousand million dollars just in interest income each year... 6k to them is less than a penny to us...

I'd rather not say who is selling the fish. You know, free advertisement and all. However, it would not be hard to find out as they are pretty popular.

Dude in Montgomery Alabama broke the record a couple years ago. IIRC it was $255K for the female and $175K for the male. He already had orders for over 500 of the babies before he even flew them home.

Say whaaaaaaaat?

Seems silly to me. All gems have those white blotches at night so it’s just a few small stripes. Those might even fade to spots as the fish ages. That’d be the proverbial crap sandwich.

I’ve paid $750 on a few occasions; and might even go a bit higher for a tigerpyge. Cannot imagine what would be worth$6K though.

My max is around $200 so I wouldn't but that fish looks like it's got LLD to me anyway.

You're not alone in your thinking about LDD.

"Proverbial crap sandwich!" +1

If I could easy afford it and money was not really a concern than I would absolutely spend 6000 on a fish, even more if money was not a concern.

Thanks for your reply. So far, not a whole lot of people feel the way you do.

People will pay what their egos tell them to do. I'm sure you all have heard of the guy in Japan that paid 3.1 million dollars (insert voice of Dr. Evil) for a dead bluefin tuna that weighed 612 lbs. He could have gone to Whole Foods and paid retail for 612 lbs for under 20,000. So why did he pay 3.1 million? Pride.

Pretty steep jump though from the previous record setter; more than $2M for a single fish (plus offspring) could be a trend and the new norm, or an aberration never to be repeated.
This was for an silver ar
But but.... i mean just look at this fish...

Sure for $5000 it will also eat my entire coral investment. But it looks like its wearing armor [emoji23]
That is one ugly fish.

To me I think happiness is the main thing to consider, If I saw a fish that always put a smile on my face the price isn't what I'm thinking about.

People are always surprised when they found out I've spent several hundred on a little brown catfish I see once a month in my tanks (if I'm lucky) when I could easily buy 30 much prettier and active ones for the same price. To that I say It makes me happy, thats all that matters to me.

Price is something I consider but its pretty low on my priority list. I could have a ton of money if I stopped pouring it into all my hobbies but then its just a number sitting in my account. If that made me happy I'd do that but I'm happiest when I'm working with animals and while the amount of joy and purpose I find within keeping, photographing and protecting them is worthless to everyone else, its priceless to me.
