Would you risk it?

In my personal experience, I did not see my coral beauty nor Potter's angel nipped on corals. But both of them have been very aggressive. I trapped the coral beauty and sold him. Then when I got the Potter's angel he chased after a whitetail bristletooth tang to the point it was all scratched up and got ich which wiped out half of my tank and the Potter's himself.

The Regal that I have now is getting bolder. He pushes his weight around the Copperband only when I have clams or oysters in the sand bed. He doesn't chase.

So for me, the risk I am mitigated against was not the eating corals but to be peaceful in my tank.

All the above depends on your other fish in the tank, what else you want to add and size of tank.

My tanks is about 300 gallons.
My stocking list is:

Yellow tang
Scopas tang
Blue tang
Fox face
Clarkii clown
Tomato clown
Banggai cardinal x 4
Fire fish x2
Saphier damsels x4

that’s it. I would like a dragonet mandarin, maybe a wrasse and some Anthias.

Yeah with a 300G and that amount of fish, pretty low risk of dwarf angel aggressions.

I have a couple of wrasses that are reef safe with caution and i have never had an issue. I love angel fish and i had gotten myself a christmas island emperor juvie for a steal so i figured why not, i feed 4-5times a day and all of my fish are fat. The day i put him in he was fine, but all of a sudden i noticed 2 of my rainbow acans were gone. I was ticked and was contemplating taking him out and making a fish sandwich out of him. I was lucky enough to find someone who would take him so i got rid of him. Long story short, i will never get an angel fish again

I tried a midnight angel once in one of my old tanks, I thought its solid jet black color would contrast nicely with a brightly lit reef, it was cool looking but it picked at everything!

I actually used a tiny scud flyfishing/tying hook with the barb clipped with a lil piece of piscene energetics mysis to get it out and rehomed it, never again will I "risk it"

Have a flame and he was just moved to the big tank as he was nipping on my clams mantel. Probably got to a few other polyps that I blamed on brutus the emerald crab who was also moved while eating a polyp hahah

It's always a risk with nature. But they are beautiful creatures. Mine last night being moved. Now he's happy in a bigger tank and the corals and clams are happy now in their tank lol.

Ive got a coral beauty I’ve had for years with no problems but there’s always that crazy uncle who shows up at thanksgiving or Christmas and want to park his rv in your yard and dump his sewage down the storm drain.

But the "crapper" was full! ;Hilarious

You guys changed my mind! I’m going to get traps in case it doesn’t work.

but let me ask you something. Are the risks with flame angels and regal angels the same? I personally want the regal, but if there’s more of a risk with them then I’ll go with the flame. I only have soft and lps corals.

I would say your chances of success are better with the Flame than the Regal. It does help increase your chances of success if the aquarium is well established with algae growing and you give them daily feedings of seaweed/nori and a mixed diet like LRS Reef Frenzy (I do this with my Coral Beauty).

This is the problem with these chat pages- we have people of all levels and different time periods in the hobby. And all have opinions and feel they are giving an honest critique based on their experience. the Pigmy angel family ( all of them) are browsers. And they are omnivores. ALL will pick at and around soft and hard corals. And worse, ones that have no taste for soft corals can develop one at any time. It is true that some corals are not 'tasty' and even off putting to an individual fish. But that is not to be depended upon. In general, forget the centropyge as there are plenty of other fish in the sea. I can think of a few dozen plus species

I think that's what is great about R2R, members of all ages and experience levels. I think it's important for all members to share experiences with fish they had for others to choose. FWIW I've seen herbivores tear up LPS and softies the same as omnivores

All fish are unique as well as people's desires for what to keep in their tanks. I have a Blue Spotted Puffer in my tank and aside from my CUC, he is a great fish. I wanted him so was willing to take the risk and see what happened.
