Would you take a chance on a carpet?

So I have an established 125 gal Display tank with a:

Purple Tang
Powder Brown Tang
2 clown
5 Blue Chromis
Chalk Bass
Cleaner Wrasse

And many different coral.

Would you take a chance on adding a carpet? I keep hearing about how bad they are. How the fish could get caught in it.

Are these stories true? Should I just trade him off? The carpet and two very large Clarkii have been in my 67 gal tank for a few months. Buy now I have to get rid of the tank.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can, but be wary. Mine moved continuously.

You could try finding the right spot for it and hoping for the best.

It is a Haddon's Carpet.

Always a risk with them.

I've been keeping S. haddonis for 15 years now, give or take. In that time I have lost 5-7 fish. One of the biggest risk times is when introducing new fish -- I have found it best to "tease" the anemone until it retracts into the sandbed.

Sandbed fish are at risk, along with slow moving perching ones.

Do you already have a pair of clowns besides the Clarkiis? Are you going to try to mix all 4?
Clarkiis can be super aggressive towards other clowns --- death can result.

No. The Clarkii's have been in the smaller 67 gallon tank, because they are way to aggressive. I think I have found a good home for them when I have to break the small tank down.
If I did put the carpet in the 125 display tank and anything happens to the Purple Tang, my wife will never forget.

If you're not willing to lose a fish, particularly the Purple Tang, don't do it. You know how Tangs spook easily and could go head first into it.

I have both a S.Haddoni and S.Gigantea and they are my favorite inhabitants. I have lost 3 fish to the Haddoni over the last 4 years so it is always a risk. Clowns will help keep some fish away, but if you're not willing to take the risk, I wouldn't do it. They are addicting though as I'm on the lookout for another nem.

I wouldn't take the chance unless you are truly ok with losing fish.... Why take the risk though? There are other beautiful anemones out there

I've thought about this as well but have always passed. And I will probably always continue to do so unless I set up a dedicated tank, which probably won't happen...ever haha

I have 3 Haddoni and 4 Gigantea in my 320 gal reef. I lost a few fish to them, wrasses, dottyback and Mandarin. Other than that, nobody got eaten for the last year.
