I'm looking for an ATO for my 45gl. I cant see myself spending 100.00 for a luxurious acrylic name brand when I will never see it unless in my stand.

I have been looking for slim water jugs/containers and found these 2 that fit my needs. I think I will cut the top so the nozzle side opens like a mouth. Drop in pump and close top to prevent unwanted dust.

Would you use these? If no, why?

Either would work fine. I'd probably go with the blue one... the other one just says 'camping' a bit too strong for me.

Personally for me... neither. You can't see how much water is left in the container. I like to take a quick look and see when I need to refill.

You could go with those pet food containers. Something like this (there are others):

Wow, that's a nice one! I will need to measure as this one is fairly wide for the space I have. It is a great starting point, never thought about pet containers.

Either should work fine, I agree with jazzmik though, can't tell when the container is low or empty without lifting it or opening it and physically looking.

+1 as other said. Had the blue one and don’t use now because of the lack of ease to see where things are, especially if dosing Kalk in the ATO

here is a good example ... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002IW6JS

I would not recommend using something that is not rated as FOOD SAFE for Human Water storage. Bacteria and such. Other issue is that some of the other plastics on the market (like the pet food container) are going to get brittle over time and then crack ..

sorry forgot to mention .. these come in a few sizes .. and the wires can be feed into them via the drain spout

I have a 7.5 gallon one. They work fine. My only issue was installing a float valve to help prevent overflow on refilling. My fat hands had trouble installing the nut on the screw inside my lid. I had to get the wife to help out but other than that no issues for me.
