Wound on Sea Star...

Have a red, fromia sea star for about 2 weeks now...he seemed to be doing well...then I noticed a small wound on top...it has grown since yesterday, has strings of flesh or something coming out of it...I don't think that he's dead...he still has some cling in him...but he has been stationery for more than a day...anything to be done about such a wound...

So sorry to hear about your star. I'm not aware of anything that can be done for it. With those guys, it's highly possible that it's starving. Can you tell us how long you've had it? What are you feeding it? Can you get a pic? #reefsquad

I agree with Mdbannister it's likely starving. It's not uncommon for these animals. Unfortunately it seems once it starts there's not much that can be done to save them.

I'm so sorry but I agree with it likely starving. Once it starts like this, I've never seen it reversed.

He died and was 1/2 eaten by cuc...had him a week...did seem to be eating but suffered a small wound which got bigger and "caput"...they are delicate...

Sorry to hear that ...

Sea stars are beautiful, iconic even ... but fragile. It's impossible to guess what your guy went through before he landed with you, and even a short time out of water can be big trouble for them . . .
