New to me schooling bannerfish (sold as diphreutes vs. acuminatus). Aside from trying to confirm tha this is a diphreutes, I noticed discoloration on the right side of the fish, and a small red mark on the dorsal fin. The fish isn't eating, but it's been in QT for only a day. I received two other of the same type, same day, and they are both mych more active and healthy looking. So, I know something is up with this one, but please help me - injuries, or disease?

Right side, note small red blotch on dorsal, and discoloration in front black band (lowe half is not all black). Also note that the right pectoral fin doesn't move much.

Left side, note full coloration of first black band.

Bacteria infection. Treat with furan2 asap
Thanks. Is that the cause of the discoloration in the black band on the right side, or just the red spot?

I agree on bacterial infection. I would go straight for a combo of furan-2, kanaplex, and metroplex.

^^ Agree; red spots/sores on a butterfly are typically caused by a septicemia-type infection. Very fast killing if it enters the bloodstream and/or affects internal organs. So, if he's eating I would be soaking Kanaplex in his food as well.

100% agree. In a quarantine
Thanks. I moved the fish to a different QT earlier today, and have started kanaplex and furan-2. Not eating, and seems pretty listless at this point, I hope I am not too late.

This fish was in a QT as part of a trio from DD. The remaining two are exhibiting very healthy behavior so far, but I have only had them two days. Should I start treating them with the same meds, or wait for signs of disease?

Unfortunately, I think it is too late. But always try!

I personally would only treat the afflicted, here, unless they're showing symptoms of ailment.

Sadly, the fish did not make it. Thanks for all of the help though; when/if there is a next time I will know what I am dealing with.

Thanks for the advice, it was helpful.
