Wrass question

I have a melanuras wrass and he needs his sand bed to sleep in, but i really want to go bare bottem as ive hears it really helps with N03 and my system is SPS dom. if i go bare bottom can i make the wrass a bed of sorts and put sand in a deepish rubbermade where he sleeps? oh: i know the exact spot where he bury's himself. i cant figure this out :sad: and would love to hear if others have done this with success

Yes, I've heard of others making a sleeping bed of sand in a plastic container before ... hopefully someone with experience chimes in!

I've not done it personally, but have seen a tank in which it was done many a time. One of the stores in Memphis, Tn (two really good ones in Memphis if you find yourself there-Kermit's Reef and Memfish) had a 240 or something similar turned so you looked into the end of it (other end blacked out, facing equipment/holding room). I think he had 46 different wrasses in there. It was bare bottom, but he had portable sand beds in various locations, out of view. He is responsible for my wrasse addiction...

Timely question. I just bought my second Melanurus Wrasse last night to patrol my frag tank which is bare bottom. I bought a food storage container with the rounded edges at Walmart to put some sugar sand in for a bed. He acclimated great, and after the lights went out I could not find him anywhere in the 45 gal frag tank (he is the only fish in the tank). I assume he buried himself in the sand. When I got home today, he was busy checking out everything in the tank. These are great fish.

cool thanks for the info, would you happen to know if i could put another wrass in my tank i have a melanuras and would love some other kind to lighten things up!

Thanks very much for your input i think i would definatly be comfortable doing this if i went bare bottem!
