Wrasse enthusiasts,

Got a question regarding a wrasse addition.

135G display and I have the following fish in the tank:

Hippo tang (5 inch)
Purple tang (1.5 inch)
Dusky Margined Wrasse (Halichoeres marginatus) (2 inch)
Hooded Flame Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus bathyphilus) (3 inch)
Dusky Fairy Brunneus Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus brunneus) (2 inch)
Orange-Back Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus aurantidorsalis) (3 inch)

Orange back and hooded flame fight here and there but these guys have been together for a year. Only recent addition is the purple tang which replaced a 5 inch foxface that started to nibble on corals.

I want to get 1 more wrasse. What would be a good colorful addition?

What genus would you want?
I.e. something that sleeps in the sand but may not help with pests (Anampses & Macropharyngodon & Xenojulis), something that displays with the other fairies (Cirrhilabrus & Paracheilinus), or something that helps with pests and sleeps in the sand (Halichoeres).

I have a 135 as well with 3 tangs. Along with 3 fairies (hooded flame, exquisite and redfin), I also have 2 leopards (male blue star and female ornate), a scarlet pinstripe, melanurus and yellow. For color and activity my vote is for the yellow!

My suggestion would be another Halichoeres as your fairies/top tank wrasse are well stocked. Radiant, earmuff, Timor, and yellow being the prettiest choices. Though the rubricephalus is a very cool looking fish.
Leopards may also work but you’d have to be wary of initial aggression as they are slow to acclimate.
Finally a bit left field and possibly dangerous but an emerald wrasse, Novaculichthys macrolepidotus is probably one of the funnest fish in the hobby.

I have about 1.5-2 inch sand. Utility is a plus but not required. We are mainly looking for colorful fish that are active.

Besides the tangs hooded flame and orange back are very active throughout the day. Something that would be able to join them without getting bullied.

I did not know this wrasse’s proper name. We run heavy blues (80 blue spectrum 20 white) would this fella look green or black under those.

Tbh I don’t know. I have its bigger and less reasonable cousin, Novaculichthys taeniourus. It’s my favorite fish personality wise. Though it’s like a wrasse most of the time it also sometimes digs like a goby, lounges like a blenny, and has a shell collection.

So what is the verdict what are we adding? And how many!?!

Halichoeres iridis
CB Labroides dimidiatus
Macropharyngodon meleagris
Anampses femininus (jk maybe try a meleagrides though)
Novaculichthys macrolepidotus
Cirrhilabrus sanguineus (also jk but there are some fairies you could get)

Have you checked thewrasseguy.com to get some ideas of mixing fairy wrasses as well?

With the aurantidorsalis it would be a risk adding more but probably one from the right side would work if carefully added. Though as I said a sanguineus would also work (if you have that sort of money lol)

You tank is ripe for wrasse additions. What wrasse depends on what you can get. Sometime this is the determine factor on which wrasse unless you are one of the luckier Reefers who can get access to a large variety of wrasses. From personal experiences, a few wrasse that would fit well in your tanks and are very colorful are
China wrasse ( as in porcelain)
