I brought my new wrasse and my clowns with me in a bucket when I evacuated. Ive had an air pump in it since yesterday afternoon. The wrasse and clowns have been doing well until about 30min ago when I checked on them. The wrasse was upside down on the bottom, he's alive but not good. He managed to right himself when I touched him, breathing is very slow. I also stuck a heater and some prime in when I checked on them, I didn't realize until then that the temp had dropped down to 72. I'm hoping that he's just really cold but I wanted to see if anyone else has ideas as to what, if anything, I can do for him.

=( you took them with you! Amazing stuff. I think youve done the best you could, you can add the heater, just make sure you dont raise or lower the temp very quickly. Is there some live rock in the bucket? Theres fish that get shipped for days upon days in the dark, sometimes when they come in, there relatively calm. He might just be stressed out. Id just work on keeping the bucket sufficient enuff to support them untill you get back on your feet. How are the clowns doing? Have you fed them?

I haven't fed them yet, that's what I was going to do when I noticed Al Capone at deaths door. The clowns are perfectly fine, you would think nothing has happened. I don't know that he's going to make it, I had to pick him up to see if he was still breathing and he didn't budge. He's barely breathing right now and is getting tossed around by the bubbles.

Props to you for bringing them along! I will second wrasses playing dead. Mine was such a baby about being transfered to the new tank lol. Hopefully yours is just being a drama green as well, but definitely try and raise the temp slowly and, if possible, check for ammonia. Stay safe!

Sorry just saw the question about the rock, no just pvc pipe I didn't have any pieces small enough to put in there. I put some prime in there but I'm about to test the ammonia, thankfully I thought to bring my test kit.

ah man, sorry to hear that. I hope you get home soon.

So sorry about that hopefully you get home with clowns and things are better than expected. Props to you for doing all you could and hopefully you realize it's not your fault. It's amazing to take them with everything else you had to worry about at this time.

I would think ammonia building up in the bucket is your #1 problem right now. Prime will only get you so far; are your near a LFS where you can get some fresh SW or any reefers nearby who can help out in a pinch?

Hey guys sorry for not checking, I lost cell service yesterday. The clowns and my betta (freshwater) are still doing good, I've only been feeding them tiny bits to try and keep ammonia down. I tested the water and ammonia came out at 0.5ppm, I used the one gallon of saltwater I had with me to do a water change but Al Capone passed as I was changing the water. I don't have anymore water for the clowns, nor do I have access to a store that has salt. I only know one person in the area that has a reef tank but he's been MIA since Wednesday. I've been dosing with prime and am hoping that it will keep it safe until I can get home. the roadblocks for my county are supposed to be lifted at 5pm today so hopefully I can get him tonight, but I don't know yet if I will have power. I wish I had been more vigilant about the ammonia, I didn't think it would go up that fast. I wonder if he would have been better off being left in the QT at home, but there isn't anything I can do about it now. I think though after this I'm going to take a break from wrasses, this is my second loss in only a couple months and I hate this feeling that I failed my fishies.

You did your very best to try and save your fish! Don't be so hard on yourself!!!
You cared enough to grab your fish and take them with you .... not many would have!!!!
So sorry for the lose of your wrasse! :(

^^ Agree. Stuff happens. There's only so much you can do sometimes.

I hope you come home to the best scene possible and many kudos for trying to save your fish like that!

I figured I'd give a quick update for those of you who may be following. Everyone is fat and happy again, no more losses. I thought I was going to lose my hammer but it rebounded after a day of having power back. And just last night I found a new baby head on my acan, so I must not be doing too bad!
