Wrasse coloration question

Hey everyone!

So picked this blue star leopard wrasse up at Petco and it had an odd coloration. He had been hiding in the sand for the past 3-4 days and he finally cam out and is eating. I am wondering if this is an abberant, transition colors, or maybe it had some trauma at some point? What is everyone's thoughts?

Looks completely within the realm of coloration for this species. I see nothing abnormal.

Maybe it's in the process of changing gender? These fish can do that.

Its already a male.
