I put a wrasse in my tank and it immediately shot under a rock and sand. I can see his tail when I look under the tank. I know that they sleep in the sand, but being under the rock as well concerns me. It's been 3 days.

Should I move the rock just to confirm if it's alive?

Do not move the rock. The wrasse will come out when it decides to check out your tank. You might injure the wrasse moving stuff around.

If the wrasse starts to decay, the it would be a good idea to move the rock.

Does your tank have a cover? Wrasses love to jump when they are scared.

Don't look for wrasse. you will stress it out more. I have a Blue star wrasse that did the same after buying it. It should come back out in two to three days maybe a week? What type of wrasse did you get? Just let the wrasse acclimate

Do not move the rock or dig for it. The wrasse is doing what theyve done for generations in the ocean..Except now its in your tank... Do not stress them. Let the fish decide not you.

Thanks All. It's a Orange Back Fairy Wrasse. I do have a screen on top of the tank. I'll try not to stress about it.

Fairy wrasses do not sleep in the sand.
