I bought a used biocube and this guy came with it. They said the LFS said it was a wrasse but really can't find one that matches. Only picture I have that's clear, he moves a lot and is camera shy. Any ideas? Blue lights don't help but he is a blue/greyish color.

This is a Pseudocoris spp. I'm thinking an initial phase male P. heteroptera.

Early stage male P. heteroptera mimic Thalassoma amblycephalum so since you found that photo to be a close match to your wrasse it makes me lean towards P. heteroptera. Pseudocoris aren't too common in the hobby so very cool wrasse!

Not my greatest pic, I cropped it so it came out a little fuzzy.
The caudal fin is shaded in the photo, but there are no distinct markings or colors on it.
Level of difficulty: moderate

Well, it isn’t melanurus but looks as though it’s one of the ones that gets confused for it.
Possibly Halichoeres binotopsis

Not binotopsis ... but yes, this one gets confused a lot

The only other names that come to mind are Chrysotaenia and Vroliki but Vroliki I’m sure is a synonym for Melanurus so I guess maybe Chrysotaenia

Vrolikii was the previous name of chrysotaenia; Hoevenii was the previous name of melanurus.

But it's none of the above :)

That’s me out of guesses, Hoevenii and Vrolikii are two names I’ll never get my head around in terms of what went for which species haha

Moderate. Hmm coris aurilineata
I just searched this up as it’s a new one for me and this photo occurred, is this not a Coris caudimacula?

Yep, that's Coris caudimacula.

On the other hand, I’ve seen some nice Coris species that have made it onto my list. Just wonder how aggressive Caudimacula, Aurilineata and Dorsomacula are compared to their relatives.

I would think aurilineata would be lowest on that scale just based on size. The other two are capable of getting pretty big, especially dorsomacula at 30+ cm according to the literature. I don't know anyone that has kept any of them.

no idea on this one. Looks like a leopard but like no leopard I’ve seen:

Looks like a Halichoeres marginatus but I believe there’s a couple that look similar to this and I can’t remember how to ID them.
