I have a yellow wrasse that has been in copper for 9 days now. It started acting lethargic a couple days ago. I should have pulled it out then but I did not. This morning it was on its side on the bottom. I scooped it out and put it in water with far less copper. I was wondering if I could get some opinions on if it's okay for me to put it in my DT yet. The wrasse has gone through 2 rounds of prazipro and was in qt for a total of 4 and a half weeks with no signs of disease.

What copper are using? What level of copper are you maintaining? How are you testing copper?

Yea my tang and angel would probably not welcome the wrasse so itll need to recover. And I'm using copper power at 1.75ppm with a hanna copper checker for the testing

I'll be honest, I'd be worried about putting it in my DT. The thick slime coat can harbor parasites, especially in the gills. I'd place the wrasse into a clean QT get it healthy and then test it with a Black Molly for at least a month.

What about finishing out the 14 day period using TTM every 2 days? I would only have to transfer it twice then I could go straight to the DT? Or would this still be too risky?

Also using the mollies is interesting. I wish I did that in the first place.

TTM is every 72 hours not 48. You could do the 14 days of TTM but it doesn’t cover Velvet only ich.

The reason I say do it twice is because the fish has already been in full strength copper for 9 days. Does it work like that or no?

Well I think I may have found the issue and it's not the copper. I put the wrasse in a white bucket and its gills are red so I'm guessing ammonia poisoning? I dont know how though because it's been set up for over a month, and all filter media comes from the DT. but when I siphoned the sand out of the QT since my other fish in QT dont need it, it smelled HORRIBLE. So possibly the sand?

Do you have an ammonia badge??

Biospira is your friend in QT. Ammonia really destroys fish, sorry for the trouble. I’d never avoid dosing biospira. An ammonia alert badge will quickly tell you how well your method of cycling has worked. Often my methods didn’t work as well as I thought, then biospira! :)

I do have an ammonia badge and I've never let it dry out between QT usage. Do they expire or go bad? I keep it in fresh water when not using in the QT. I hope the wrasse makes it but it's not looking good. It's on its side not moving. And I was trying to save it and wasn't thinking because I put it in the bucket and started doing water changes and I completely forgot to put a heater in with it. Then an hour or 2 later I threw the wrasse in a newer large bucket where the water was warm. Complete rookie mistake that just added to the stress

Anything I can do to increase its survival chances? It's still alive but barely it seems

Do you have methylene blue? Odds are it won’t survive and the stress from the bath could finish it off but it would be a last ditch effort.

+1000 on Biospira

No I have like everything but that. And I will certainly pick up biospira. I have acriflavine? Is that similar the methylene blue?

Acriflavine is antiseptic but the methylene blue is good for transpiring O2 across injured gills.

Oh okay, darn. I have an air stone going crazy in the bucket. My luck with wrasse has been TERRIBLE. I've lost an exquisite and a pintail in QT as well before

I hear you I’m 2 for 5 with Wrasses ugh

Yea I've got a mccosker and a filamented in QT. I'm hoping they can pull though. They seem healthy and great but the yellow wrasse just couldn't take it I guess. It's so weird how the sand got so smelly. It stunk up the entire room when I siphoned it into the bucket
